2-Day Fire Alarm & Detection Systems Workshop Key Components:
A 12-hour program covering essential codes (NFPA 72), system operations (initiating devices, control panels), and a focus on NFPA 72 – Chapter 14 inspection and testing requirements.
These sessions are designed for fire code inspectors, technicians, and engineers who need a “back-to-basics” approach to system design, installation, and compliance.
Essential Codes and Standards: In-depth review of NFPA 72 (National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code – 2022 Edition) and 2025 Codes of New York State for fire alarm design, installation compliance, system operation and inspection, testing & maintenance.
System Operation & Components: Understanding operation of initiating devices, notification appliances, control panels, circuits and communication methods.
Installation Concepts: Coverage of wiring methods (NEC), component placement (smoke/heat detectors), and device installation.
Inspection, Testing & Maintenance (ITM): Focused training on Chapter 14 of NFPA 72, including testing frequencies, reporting and documentation requirements.
Documentation: Chapter 7 provides a great deal of useful information on documentation requirements for design, installation, job completion, testing and inspecting, and record maintenance. Chapter 7 includes a detailed list of minimum required documentation for various stages of the life of the system (Section 7.2).
You will receive lessons in how environmental and system conditions produce different types of signals, such as alarm, trouble, and supervisory signals used to trigger responses or evacuation behaviors.
The workshop also overviews power supply criteria, battery replacement or load testing requirements and understand circuits that drive and connect the foundation of fire alarm systems.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to install and configure fire detection systems to maximize environmental safety and ensure operational readiness.
